 | EDUCATION SERVICES OVERVIEW |
A successful educational experience has long been seen as a critical key for a young person having a positive and productive life. In 1974, Highfields partnered with the Ingham Intermediate School District to open the Malcolm Williams School, a nationally recognized school serving the educational needs of the youth placed in the Youth Opportunity Camp. Based on the "lessons learned" through this program, and an expressed need for ways to better connect with and engage students in community schools, Highfields began developing additional educational services. Breakthrough, opened in 1985, was our first new service in this area. Its positive impact with numerous community schools has been significant and has led to the development of many more education services. While they can be delivered in a variety of settings, all of our education services programs have several common themes: - They are customized to meet specific individual or group needs
- They will use experiential, didactic, group and individual presentation styles
- They will focus on personal growth and development; discovery of strengths; mastery of social, behavioral and academic skills; increased self-confidence and self-responsibility; improved communication, problem solving and decision making; learning how to better manage life's challenges; and /or how to successfully achieve the educational competencies needed to have a more productive future.
